72 Each system is described in terms of the underlying principles and instruments. The suitability of each system for realizing a regionalized agricultural system is also assessed. The required transitions in relation to the existing economic system are also indicated in each case, as it is obviously important to know the possible consequences of incorporating an alternative system into a new regional agricultural system. The essence of each of the alternative economic systems is indicated below: • Participative economy Participative planning forms the starting point for determining production and consumption (allocation). People have influence and a say at direct level. • Partnership economy Cooperation and mutuality constitute the starting point in developing and implementing solidarity-based practices. Collective resources are generated to realize and optimize innovative concepts (based on values of solidarity) and behavioural change. • Solidarity economy People and Planet are central in models, indicators and policy. • Equality economy Operationalization of equality between genders, cultures, generations. Balance between ecological, generation and production systems. • Ecological economy Sustainable scale, the economic sub-system forms part of the ecological system.
