Summary 71 Alternative economic systems - An exploratory study into practicable concepts for designing a regionalized agricultural system Schoenmaker, B. (BYOI) InnovationNetwork Report 09.2.224, Utrecht, The Netherlands, December 2009. Within the ‘Sustainable Enterprise’ Theme, InnovationNetwork has written the initial ‘Regionalization’ memorandum. The central question is: can regionalization offer a viable starting point for achieving sustainable agriculture in order to provide a long-term answer to problems relating to safe food production (at global level), irresponsible usage of natural resources, environmental impairment, preservation of cultivated countryside and the disappearance of important (social) functions from regions? To create a regional agricultural system, several radical changes need to be made to existing practices. This Essay centres on changes in the economic system. An exploratory study was carried out into alternative economic systems that can promote regionalization, with a focus on concepts for system innovations that can be implemented at handson level. The following alternative economic systems were looked at: 1. Participative economy; 2. Partnership economy; 3. Solidarity economy; 4. Equality economy; 5. Ecological economy. Pagina 78
