In addition, the general demand for the use of fishing vessels and competition between entrepreneurs at sea has been studied. Having developed a step-by-step plan, we describe in brief five double business cases, containing approximate amounts, which could serve as an example for fishing entrepreneurs. The study has also taken a general look at the demands imposed on a fishing vessel and its crew by the various secondary activities, which investments are required in order to be able to fulfil a particular type of assignment and how big these investments are. An inventory has also been made of the fishermen’s potential customers (the customers for secondary activities) and approximately how big the demand (need) for each secondary activity is. We have also looked at the costs to the fishermen of deploying their vessels for various activities and what the costs might be in general terms of meeting the demands of potential customers and complying with the legislation and regulations. In doing so, we have made use of data from LEI’s Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). Based on a desk study and interviews, supplementary information has been collected about the economic diversification opportunities at sea. 61 Pagina 66
