Summary 83 Nutri-hof – A concept for integrated aquaculture Bert Schuilenburg MSc (AquafarmingConsult) InnovationNetwork Report No. 12.2.299, Utrecht, The Netherlands, October 2012. This report is the result of an exploration of the opportunities for integrated aquaculture under Dutch conditions. Using waste products from the fish farming process as raw materials for the production of other products can reduce the environmental burden and improve operational performance and revenue. The report describes the development of Nutri-hof, a concept for integrated aquaculture, where the dissolved waste products from farmed fish are used as raw materials for phototropic conversion (plant cultivation) while the solid residual materials (faeces and uneaten food) can be used to grow muckworms. The possibilities and impossibilities of the various fish species, plant species and worms that are eligible for the concept are explored, followed by a justification of the selected concept components. The selected concept components within Nutri-hof are: • Tilapia • Duckweed (Lemna minor) • Basil • Muckworms Pagina 93
