Learning deficiencies do not arise because of a lack of goodwill, but because the relentless demands of our day-to-day lives leave too little scope to share knowledge and learn with others, let alone to construct together. InnovationAcademy is on a mission to rectify these learning deficiencies. The practical landscape consists of innovations involving a diverse array of organizations, institutes and companies. The learning deficiencies that arise in this particular landscape cannot be exclusively blamed on one of these parties. They stem from incomplete connections or unintentional obstructions. It is true that interests often differ and may even appear to conflict with each other. But this is not to say that they cannot be joined up. By creating innovative ways of cooperation and innovative processes, opportunities are seized and the search for solutions acquires a sustainable dimension. Helping to convert valuable experiential knowledge into new competences and skills at an organizational level is a specific focus of the InnovationAcademy – because no single traditional party has taken up this role so far. A newcomer to the practical landscape like InnovationAcademy must prove its worth. Its added value lies in introducing social learning strategies that contribute to an ongoing development process around an initiative or innovation. The core of the approach is to enable people to create space for themselves in their own professional practice in order to discuss difficult issues and to remove impediments to the ongoing development of innovative processes. Diverse experiences with knowledge management, peer reviews, learning expeditions and communities of practice have yielded many viable working methods and approaches. The ambition of the InnovationAcademy is to turn these into a coherent social learning strategy in order to invest the learning process with strategic significance. With this goal in mind, it is conducting a targeted search for practice grounds: places where the InnovationAcademy can contribute towards the development of innovative capability, thereby preparing and enabling practitioners to adopt innovations and advance their development.
