46 coherent whole in order to prove or adjust the formulated design claims. The next step will be to determine the optimal design for the Pig Court. A project has been developed for this purpose, where all facets of the Pig Court can be tested and optimized in a pilot stall with five piglet nurseries. The aim is to develop the Pig Court into a technically feasible and economically viable housing system. The planned pilot will be carried out at the Maatschap Holdijk pig farm in Haarlo, Gelderland. The outcomes of the 3-year Pig Court pilot should provide answers to questions about such critical factors as: 1. Animal behaviour and hygiene 2. Pig rearing system where the same group of pigs are reared together throughout their lives as they progress through the various sections of the stall. 3. Showers 4. Slurry channel 5. Nursery section 6. Ventilation, climate and air cleaning (biobeds) 7. Plant growth 8. Feeding 9. Pig rearing system & animal behaviour 10.Commercial/Economic 11.Labour 12.Reactions among pig farmers and general public 13.Project development The pilot is subdivided into 5 subsidiary projects: Sub-project Preparation of pilot at Mts.
