Transparency. In the Pig Court the pigs are not hidden from the eye, but are visible to the public in a green and attractive stall environment which blends into the landscape. The public can see and smell the pigs in the Pig Court, without the smell of manure dominating the experience! The ‘Pig Court’ partnership The project is being developed by a partnership of 7 companies who are inspired by the conviction that the Pig Court is a viable concept. The initiator of the Pig Court is Jan Pape of Pape Creavorm VOF from Beltrum. Pape Creavorm engages in product development and innovation, notably in the overlap area between agriculture and landscape design. Alongside the Pig Court, Jan Pape is also the person who conceived the Cow Garden concept and designed ‘Nieuw Achterhoeks Landschap’ (a new landscape concept). Jan Pape is a participant in VarkensNET (Pig Toilet study group). The other members of the partnership are: 1. BETEBE GmbH (cleaning installations, incl. manure robots) 2. ForFarmers (producer and supplier of (e.g.) pig feed) 3. Mts. Holdijk (pig farmer) 4. ID Agro BV (housing systems for the pig farming sector) 5. JW Constructies (electrical engineering firm incl. ventilation systems and organic air filters) 6. Projecten LTO Noord (project development and management) Three companies in the partnership (Pape Creavorm, ID Agro and BETEBE) have already spent several years working closely together on the Cow Garden concept (an innovative integrated sustainable housing concept for cattle). The combined knowledge, experience and available networks of the partners guarantee an integrated approach throughout the Pig Court project, from concept design to development and commercialization. As part of the project a ‘pig farmer’ sounding board group and a ‘society’ sounding board group will be set up. The pig farmers will be involved in the further development of the Pig Court, so that the concept will be developed and detailed in close conjunction with the market. Within the ‘society’ sounding board group, representatives of e.g. animal and environment protection groups, landscape designers and consumers will also provide input for the Pig Court from the perspective of society. Finally, the partnership will receive project coordination and fundraising assistance from MOREA Subsidie- en ProjectBegeleiding, Rheden (Gelderland). The Pig Court Pilot In the past year the Pig Court has been steadily adapted and detailed, partly on the basis of the outcomes of small-scale experiments with e.g. plants in the stall, biobeds and pig showers. However, the project has now reached a stage where the various parts of the Pig Court must be put together and jointly developed, tested and optimized as a 45 Pagina 49
