26 that are being hospitalized. The zero measurement also included an assessment of the quality of life, by means of an abridged EQ5 questionnaire that covers five aspects of quality of life. Results A total of 642 children (over 50% of the population) were measured at 9 LZK schools. Acute malnutrition and chronic malnutrition was measured for 3% and 13.8%, respectively. The prevalence of overweight was 13.1%. Children who had been chronically ill since birth had the highest prevalence of acute and chronic malnutrition. This risk of malnutrition measured with the STRONGkids instrument showed that about 40% of the pupils run an increased risk of malnutrition. Conclusion In this zero measurement, over 1 in 4 LZK schoolchildren have an abnormal nutritional condition and almost halve runs an increased risk of malnutrition. These high percentages underline the need to make attention for nutrition an integral part of the policy at LZK schools. An abnormal nutritional condition can have both short- and long-term consequences for the children. It can also disturb their cognitive development and impair their performance at school. Pagina 31
