Summary 25 Children’s nutritional condition at “LZK” schools – Screening Report Joosten, Dr. K.F.M. (Erasmus MC Rotterdam) InnovationNetwork Report No. 11.2.262, Utrecht, The Netherlands, March 2011. Introduction In the Netherlands there is a group of chronically ill primary schoolchildren who go to special “LZK” schools. A number of these schools for chronically ill children run their own school meal schemes. The nutritional condition of children attending these LZK schools is not known. Purpose of study The study is a zero measurement of the children’s nutritional condition and of the risk of malnutrition at LZK schools. The zero measurement is carried out in order to determine the actual nutritional condition of the children and to design a research program by means of which the impact of future nutritional policy interventions at these schools can be monitored. Methods The individual nutritional condition is determined with the aid of weight, height, upper arm circumference measurements, and by comparing these measurements with national outcomes – which renders the so-called group’s standard deviation score. Determine the risk of malnutrition with The STRONGkids risk instrument was used to determine the risk of malnutrition. STRONG is the acronym of “screening tool risk on nutritional status and growth”, a tool that has been developed in order to assess the risk of malnutrition for children Pagina 30
