Short description and history of use Aronia melanocarpa is a shrub native to the North American continent, which was introduced to Europe in the 18th century. Although it has been cultivated in Europe for over two hundred years, in particular in the northern and eastern part, it is only in the last 15-20 years that it has gained popularity and been included in the category of “super-fruits”. In earlier years, it was treated mostly as a medicinal plant. In terms of taste, the berries tend to be too sour by themselves and require the addition of sugar. Traditionally, they have been used to make jams, juices, wines, sorbets and pie fillings. Due to the high antioxidant content and the health benefits associated with it, many businesses today have started to consider it for juice Pagina 44
