Acknowledge ments 1 In travelling the world, as researchers of food plant biodiversity, we not only have the pleasure of discovering the most amazing plants, but also of encountering some of the most intelligent, passionate and compassionate people on earth. We are very fortunate to have met and befriended many of them, and to have been inspired and motivated in our studies. Among them brilliant souls whose knowledge often far surpasses that of doctorates in the field… to them a special respect and appreciation, to writers, plant collectors, plant breeders, growers, gene bank officials and professors, to all of them whom we have encountered and from whom we have learned so much, a very big thanks and our sincere gratitude. As much as we would like to name them all, we are limited by constraints of space. For their friendship and moral support as well as scientific, financial and photographic contributions to this particular work, we would like to give special thanks to: W.J. Blackmon, Blaine Bourgeoise, Steve Brack, Mihail Coman, Marina di Gasperi, Steve Facciola, Ron Hurov, Alan Kapuler, Dylana Kapuler, Luis Lozano Menendez, Mario Margheriti, Raj Misra, Anpetu Ohankesni, Klaus Pistrick and his wife, Erika Pistrick, Neil Reese, Conrad Richter and family, Loek Roozen, Alicia Simcox, Joyce C. Simcox, Dale Simcox, Patrick Simcox, Susan Simcox, Biby and Daniel Stoenescu, Otto Werth and family. And, finally, the creative team that made this all happen: our dear friend Marco Westmaas, chef and creative thinker extraordinaire, and the directors of Crop Innovation Holland, Rob Van Harem and Imgard Pilkens. With a tribute to the Late Bert Reynolds who worked alongside W.J. Blackmon in demonstrating rapid improvement of Apios Americana. The Authors Pagina 10
