Time points offers several major advantages. Firstly, it is an instrument that mobilizes skills and capabilities, which currently remain unused in the formal economy. In this way, Time Points offers people who are not taking part in the labour process (unemployed persons, pensioners) a new source of income. In this way, it enables them to stay socially active and to feel appreciated by making a useful contribution to society. Secondly, those in need of assistance can tap into an additional source of care, which complements the professional care that is covered by their health insurance. Time Points is an interesting option for government, insurers and healthcare institutions as (i) participants will require less professional care, which will reduce the costs and workload and (ii) participants will carry out all sorts of activities – in return for payment via Time Points – which are currently financed within the Wmo (Social Support Act) as home care. In view of the discretionary nature of the Wmo resources, these can be (partly) used for other purposes. Retailers who accept hours in payment will attract extra customers. Municipalities will achieve their objectives with less money. And the increasing interaction between community members will lead to greater social cohesion. 25 Pagina 30
